Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape - Fallen Angels
Last in my little batch of Massive Darkness 2 enemy mobs to paint were the Fallen Angels. I started by priming them with Colour Forge Standard Grey before using the airbrush to give them a basecoat of Two Thin Coats Griffon Claw. I then picked out the feathers with Archive-X Reefer White and the robes with Two Thin Coats Death Reaper. With the initial basecoats done I then gave the model a zenithal highlight with Liquitex Titanium White acrylic ink. In hindsight, I should have basecoated the models with Army Painter Air Raven Black and then picked out the skin and wings. Lesson learnt for next time I suppose.
From there I could block in the metallic details, such as painting the helmets and sword handles with Scale75 Old Copper. The sword blades I painted with Scale75 Trash Metal. The mob leader has armour all down his arm so I didn’t want to paint the sword handle in copper as well, so to differentiate things I painted his sword handle with Scale75 Black Metal.
Next I painted the robes with a coat of Black Templar to bring out the texture of the cloth and used Skeleton Horde for the hair. Lastly for the washes and contrasts I gave the skin, wings and armour a coat of Sonic Sledgehammer’s Marine Juice. I then picked out the trinkets on the robes with Scale75 Old Copper and the thin straps with Two Thin Coats Dry Rust Brown.
Mob leader
The Leader of the mob had a few extras that I needed to paint before I could move onto the bases, namely the stone tablet and protruding arrow. For the tablet, I painted it with Two Thin Coats Dungeon Stone and used Two Thin Coats Scorched Earth for the arrow shaft. The fletching on the arrow meanwhile, I picked out with Black Templar.
For the bases, I basecoated them with a matt black and then covered them in a thick layer of Martian Ironearth texture paint. Once the latter had fully dried to a nicely crackly texture I sealed them down with some Geek Gaming Scenics Matt Sealant.
Black robes and white wings, at first glance these Fallen Angels may seem daunting but by keeping things simple we can make sure a paint job isn’t the reason they have turned from the Light of Heaven.
