Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape - Andra

The last roaming monster that I needed to do for Massive Darkness 2 was Andra. A horrifying undead amalgamation of demon and angel, they swoop in and out of battle to target the most vulnerable heroes.

To get things started I primed the miniature with Colour Forge Raven Black, and I figured that I might try some actual slapchop on their flowing robes. To do this I first overbrushed the robes with Two Thin Coats Dungeon Stone, leaving only the deepest recesses black. I then gave the robes a heavy drybrush of Vallejo Cold Grey followed by a lighter drybrush of Two Thin Coats Carcharodon Grey. Lastly, I drybrushed the edges of the robes with Army Painter Matt White. With the lights and shadows set I painted the leather tassels with Gore Grunta Fur and the robes themselves with Snakebite Leather.

For the rest of the model I painted the wings with a few thin coats of Archive-X Reefer White and, like Lyidan, I painted the exposed skin with Two Thin Coats Griffon Claw. The handle of the sword meanwhile I painted with Vallejo Khaki and the mantle of fur (or perhaps feathers?) I painted with Two Thin Coats Carcharodon Grey. I chose lighter colours so that they matched with the white wings and so that the eventual wash would have a bigger impact.

The last couple of basecoats I needed to do were the weapons and armour. In keeping with the overtly brown tones of the model I decided to paint the armour and sword hilt with Scale75 Old Copper. The blade of the sword meanwhile I painted with Scale75 Thrash Metal.

From there I gave the whole model a wash of Sonic Sledgehammer’s Marine Juice, this is a homebrew wash that both shades details while providing a smidge of warmth to the model. To further bring out the texture of the model I then drybrushed the wings with Army Painter Matt White and the edges of the robes with Army Painter Pale Sand. For the metallic details, I gave them a light drybrush with Necron Compound. To finish things off I carefully sprayed some Liquitex Titanium White ink in and around the eyes, which I then followed up with some Warp Lightning and a dot of Matt White for a quick OSL effect.

For the base, I kept it simple. I coated the flat areas with Armageddon Dust texture paint, which matched nicely with the rest of the light brown tones of the model. Once it was dry I gave it a wash of Seraphim Sepia. Lastly I painted the rim of the base with a matt black.
