Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape - Lyidan, Incubus Lord

Continuing my way through Massive Darkness 2 I am in striking distance of finishing off the core box. I just have a couple of roaming monsters and then the big bosses. With that in mind I cracked the Incubus Lord out of the box, tidied up some of the mould lines and primed him with Colour Forge Raven Black.

As he is a demon, I decided to give him a paint scheme similar to Imps and Demons I have painted previously. To start things off, I painted his tail and wings with a couple coats of Army Painter Basilisk Red. As the wings are quite large, I wanted to give them a bit of visual interest, so I used the airbrush to carefully paint the membranes of the wings with Daler-Rowney Flesh Tint acrylic ink. The skin on the torso meanwhile I painted with Two Thin Coats Griffon Claw, as the artwork has him with pale skin to contrast the red wings. The smoke on the end of his chain I carefully painted with Two Thin Coats Carcharodon Grey. From there I painted the tabard that barely covered his fun bits, and the horns with Army Painter Skeleton Bone. I assume the number of bony protrusions and near nudity is a nod to him being an incubus, you know because he’s horny. Wink, wink.

Anyway, I moved onto the metallics. I painted the armour with Army Painter Tainted Gold, similar to how I did for the demons, the greenish-gold contrasts nicely with the red wings. The sword blade I painted with Army Painter Heavy Metal and the hilt with Scale75 Old Copper. Lastly, I painted the chain and smoking censor with Scale75 Thrash Metal.

Rather than give individual components a wash I instead gave the whole model a unifying wash with Sonic Sledgehammer’s Marine Juice. This is great stuff that shades the model and gives it a touch of warmth without tinting the model too much. I did however do some quick highlights by way of drybrushing. I drybrushed the horns and folds in the loin cloth with Army Painter Pale Sand. For the wings and tail I used Archive-X Caboose Red, being careful not to get any on the fleshy membranes. Lastly, I gave the metal areas a light drybrush with Necron Compound.

For the base, I first tidied up the flat areas with some Army Painter Matt Black. I followed that up with a good layer of Martian Ironearth texture paint which I then sealed in please with some Geek Gaming Scenics Matt Scenics. To finish it off I tidied up the edges with more Matt Black.
