Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape - Infernal Imps
Hot on the heels of the Gargoyles I launched straight into the Infernal Imps. I primed them with Colour Forge Matt Black and used the airbrush to give them an even coat of Army Painter Basilisk Red. The deep, almost purple, red was perfect as the basecoat for the skin. To reinforce this idea I painted the cloth with a couple layers of Two Thin Coats Amethyst Rayne
From there I picked out the horns with Black Templar, the leather armour with Garaghak’s Sewer and the weapon handles with Wyldwood. At this point I also carefully painted the teeth with Army Painter Skeleton Bone. Everything then got a coat of Army Painter Red Tone to bring out all the texture. For the metallic details like the weapons and shields, I gave them an initial coat of Army Painter Speedpaint Broadsword Silver followed by a wash of Army Painter Dark Tone. The result was dark metal with a slight reddish tone, which I felt fit the imps nicely.

To provide a bit more definition to the skin I painted the raised areas of the skin on the face with Army Painter Basilisk Red. I was tempted to push the highlights a little further with Vallejo Scarlet Red but not for these mere game pieces. However, to differentiate the hair I did give them a coat of Army Painter Speedpaint Gravelord Grey to darken them down. As a final detail I dotted the eyes with Army Paint Matt White.
For the bases I managed to coax the last out of my pot of Astrogranite, at this point it was mostly just slightly gritty Mechanicus Standard Grey. To contrast the warm tones on the model I gave the base a blue wash using Drakenhof Nightshade. Lastly, I painted the rims of the bases with a matt black.

Small but mighty! Don’t let the diminutive size of the Infernal Imps fool you, and don’t think that we’re going to skimp on details.
